European Day of Languages

European Day of Languages is celebrated every year on 26th September. It is an opportunity to alert the public to the importance of language learning; increase plurilingualism and intercultural understanding; promote the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe; and encourage lifelong language learning in and out of school.

This year, the Modern Languages department at Hyndland organised a wide variety of activities for pupils across all year groups. There were quizzes, challenges, poster competition, a QR code treasure hunt, pupil discussions, photo booth with an international flavour and of course international music! It was also the week for the launch of the Russian club - almost a class of 30 pupils had signed up!

Staff from across departments had the opportunity to use their language skills by greeting pupils as well as engaging with lesson starter activities that linked their subject to foreign languages. The canteen staff also got in on the act by organising a European themed menu. A number of staff and pupils also took part in a world record attempt by saying "hello" in a language they knew or had learned at school or university.

A huge thanks to everyone who took part in the event or helped out in anyway. Lots of photos and videos of the week can be found on the twitter account @Hyndland_ML.
