S1 and S2/3 IDL Week - 14-18th May 2018

During the week beginning 14th to 18th May 2018 all students in S1, S2 and S3 who are not participating in either the London or Blairvadach Trips or involved in Bronze Duke of Edinburgh will be involved in our IDL week of learning.  The normal school timetable is suspended for that week to allow the students to undertake a week of enriched learning across the curriculum.  The themes for the week are as follows:

S1 - John Muir Award - Discovery Level

Students in S1 will be working towards achieving their Wider Achievement Award called the John Muir Award - this is an environmental award which encourages participants to connect with, enjoy, and care for the wild.   During the week of learning students will attend a number of trips to allow them to be involved in outdoor learning which will include; Orienteering and working with Park Rangers at Pollock Country Park, Whitelee Wind Farm visit and Science based workshop, Lambhill Stables Community Group visit and a visit to Viridor Recycling Plant.  Other in-school activities will involve community based workshops with RSPB and Polli:Nation as well as having the opportunity to watch a theatre production by Team Binit!  The parental letter which will be issued to students on Friday 4th May can be accessed by clicking the link below:

S2/S3

Students in S2/3 can choose to participate in one of the following:

* Photography Club - working with Art & Design students will learn basic photography skills during the week.

* Newsweek Reporting Club - working with an editor from the BBC students will film events & write reports on the IDL week.

* School Show Production / Preparation - young people can help to produce props, paint scenery and work on the advertising   campaign of our upcoming school production of Grease in June.

* S1 John Muir Ambassador Programme - S3 pupils can help to support S1 students with their John Muir Award Learning.

* Rights Respecting School Activities - Pupils will explore Children's Rights:  the right to play,  the right to education,  the right to best possible health,  protection from child labour,  sustainable development and the effects of climate change though a variety of activities in school,  in our local community and on the Ayrshire coast.  Activities include: a visit to Finlaystone country park; a choice of sports including tennis,  kayaking and grass bowls; a masterchef session and movie day; a beach clean and beach cricket day; Heartstart resuscitation.
