Senior Phase College Courses

Glasgow School College Partnership 2017-18

Glasgow City Council Schools, in collaboration with our local colleges are offering a broad portfolio of part-time courses to pupils in the Senior Phase (S4-6). This exciting venture means our young people in Hyndland Secondary School have unprecedented access to an ambitious programme of courses from SCQF Levels 1 to 7 primarily aimed at preparing young people for the world of work whilst continuing with school studies.

Provision is particularly focused upon supporting young people through vocational pathways in industry with opportunities across a range of sectors including:

  • Administration, Financial & Business Services,
  • Creative & Digital Industries
  • Food, Drink, Hospitality & Leisure Industries
  • Health, Care, Education & Sport Industries
  • Nautical
  • Personal & Social Development
  • Science, Engineering, Construction & Manufacturing Industries
  • Widening Access courses.

You can access or download the Glasgow Senior Phase Prospectus 2017/18 Levels 1-7 to find out more about these opportunities.

The application process is relatively straightforward but it is important to consider your choices carefully:

  • Research your courses in the Glasgow Senior Phase Prospectus 2017/18 Levels 1-7   making sure the level is suited to both your needs and ability.
  • Consider whether courses are suited to both your immediate and longer term career plan.
    • Do you meet the entry requirements?
    • Is the course level appropriate for you?
    • Does it sit well with your other subject choices?
    • Are you prepared to commit to the course for one year? (or 2 years for a Foundation Apprenticeship/HNC)
  • As a Hyndland Secondary School student, you will have priority for courses in colleges in our local area
    • Glasgow Clyde College
    • City of Glasgow College

It is important you read both the General Information chapter in the Glasgow Senior Phase Prospectus 2017/18 Levels 1-7 and the course descriptors

  • You may also apply for courses at other colleges out-with our geographical area but should consider the potentially longer travel time and the impact this may have on your other studies.
  • Courses are mostly timetabled for a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon – for S5 and 6 pupils, this will harmonise with one column on your school course planning form.
  • A free bus pass is provided to allow you to travel between school and college.
  • College expectations are very similar to school in terms of conduct and attendance.
  • Speak to your Pastoral Care Teacher if you require more advice.
