Ecuador and Galapagos 2018
Date: Friday, 22 June 2018

In the summer of 2018 we plan to visit the Amazon Forest in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. This is a unique opportunity to experience some of the most exciting biological sites and to work alongside leading scientists as they gather data to support applications for conservation funding.

The first week will be spent in the remote Nenkepare forest camp, which is accessed by long boat along the Sipuruni River in the Amazon Forest, where we will work alongside and visit the homes of the native Huaorani Amerindians. The second week is spent on Floreana Island in the Galapagos Islands. Floreana Island has only 120 inhabitants and is the least developed for tourist visits of all the Galapagos Islands. The second week will include a full PADI Open Water SCUBA diving course and the rare chance to have 'Galapagos Islands' listed on your ID card as your place of qualification. Students will also receive a ‘Universities Award’ for completing the expedition which is recognized by UCAS and allows students to demonstrate a range of personal skills.

The trip is being organised by Mr Downie, Mrs Hayes and Mrs Charters from the Science Department.

Our expedition team received the following video message from Mark Beaumont wishing them good luck with all their fundraising and preparations
