LGBT HYNDLAND

We are delighted to announce that in October 2021 we received the GOLD Charter Award from LGBT Youth Scotland for the work we have undertaken over the past two sessions!  We are so proud of this achievement as much of the work carried out for this was led and driven by our young people.

Our LGBT and Allies group will continue to post updates on Twitter - please follow them for updates and pictures of the work being undertaken by them to help ensure our school is an inclusive place for all @HSSLGBT

Below is a picture of our LGBT+ Group which meets each week - new members are always welcome to attend!

On 12th November we held a celebration event in the school to mark us receiving the Bronze Charter Award from LGBT Youth Scotland.  During our celebration event we asked our young people what impact the Charter Work and the LGBT+ Group in the school had on either themselves personally or on the school.  Here are a selection of their very powerful comments / responses:

EVENTS CELEBRATED DURING SESSION 2018-2019

Pride Month - June 2019

During the month of June the LGBT+ group will be presenting at House Assemblies to highlight Pride month and what this involves.  We look forward to posting some more updates from this.

LGBT History Month - February 2019

During the month of February our LGBT+ Twitter Group tweeted a different LGBT+ Icon for each day of the month.  A number of these icons came from materials produced by TIE however towards the end of the month our group worked on creating their own LGBT+ icons.  This was followed up by the creation of a number of posters which have now been displayed across the school of our LGBT+ icons.  Some are included below:

LGBT History Month - Presentations to House Assemblies - week beginning 18th February 2019

During the week of Monday 18th February our LGBT+ Group presented at year group assemblies - this involved a number of students from the group speaking about what LGBT history month is as well as providing some information about the work of the LGBT+ Group.

We finished off our month of activities with a bake sale to raise money so that the LGBT+ Group can look at attending the Pride Festival in the summer as well as funding a visit to the LGBT Bookshop to buy some new materials for the school.

Wear it Purple Day - October 2018

Our first event to highlight our support for the LGBT+ community took place on Thursday 11th October.  On this day we are asked all students and staff to wear something purple to celebrate Spirit Day - this day was to show our support for those in the LGBT+ community as well as those from other minority backgrounds.  During the week of Monday 8th October some ambassadors of our LGBT Group attended year group assemblies to highlight our Wear Purple Day and to gather some support.  Many thanks to students and parents for their support with this.
