Spero Meliora Campaign

The focus of our Spero Meliora Campaign for 2018/2019 will be on how tiny changes can make a big difference.

Details will be available shortly on how you can get involved this session to help improve our school and the experience of our young people, however in the meantime, why not bring your old revision books/ past paper books into the school and donate them to younger pupils who may benefit from additional study resources?

Our 2017/2018 Spero Meliora campaign focussed on fundraising with many members of the school community contributing to its success.

Arnold Clark generously donated a minibus to the school for 12 months which we were finally able to purchase thanks to this campaign. This vehicle has already proved invaluable in transporting pupils to sports fixtures, rewards trips and a wide variety of curricular and extracurricular activities. The campaign also supported school trips, and the school fund ensuring that all pupils at Hyndland Secondary School have the best possible educational experience.

During the year there were a number of fundraising events, some of which are detailed below:

Spero Meliora Evening Lectures 2018

As part of our Spero Meliora campaign, we have hosted two inspirational evening lectures in our very own Airlie Theatre with Mark Beaumont on the 10th January and Eilidh Doyle on the 11th of January.

Mark emulated Jules Vern'es character, Phileas Fogg, by cycling 18,032 miles circumnavigating the globe in just 78 days, 14 hours and 40 minutes, setting two world records along the way in 2017 in his most recent adventure!

Eilidh, an Olympic medalist and captain of the British Athletics Team, is Scotland's most decorated track and field athlete of all time and is currently preparing for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games!

An Evening With Doug Allan

Our third Spero Meliora Evening Lecture will took place on Friday 16th March 2018 with Doug Allan.

Doug Allan is one of the world's best nature cameramen and has filmed some of the most memorable scenes ever broadcast on television.

Doug has worked on the BBC's The Blue Planet, Life of Mammals, Planet Earth, Life, Human Planet, and Frozen Planet. Four Emmys and five Baftas are among his many accolades to date.

"Wildlife camerament don't come much more special than Doug" - Sir David Attenborough.

School Calendar 2018

Our special 2018 fundraising calendar was released in December 2017.

Special thanks go to Mr Dempster, the Art Department and our very talented young people who have contributed to this, and to MJD Design & Print for their ongoing support and help in designing the calendar!

The calendar has been sponsored by a number of local businesses to ensure that all money raised goes directly to the school and our young people.

The calendar, which contains key school dates for 2018, is priced at £5 and is available to buy from the school office and a number of local shops around Hyndland as well as Sainsbury's at Crow Road Retail Park.

Bag Packing

Pupils and staff were packing bags at Sainsbury's Braehead on Thursday 21st December, as staff and pupils gave up the first day of their Christmas holiday to support the fundraising efforts. £160 of the money raised was pledged to Whiteinch Foodbank to help support Miss Neilson and the Junior Pupil Council's tremendous efforts in raising £1000 prior to finishing for the Christmas holidays! £150 was also pledged to senior students participating in their Mark Scott Leadership for Life Award who helped all day. A special thanks to McDonalds Intu Braehead Retail Park Store for assisting in arranging a special festive lunch treat for all our helpers!

Easter Fair

We held a special Easter Fair on Saturday 24th March with lots of activities, games, crafts and jumble stalls, plus an appearance from Bonny the Seal!
