School Uniform

As you will be aware, Hyndland Secondary was undertaking a review of the current uniform policy.

This was in light of interest expressed from pupil councils.

This was our first communication to parents.

"Members of the Junior Pupil Council have asked to discuss the issue of school uniform in the school. Over the next few weeks there will be opportunities for pupils to discuss the issue at special pupil council meetings and through tutor and PSE classes. There will also be opportunities for pupils in our associated primaries to discuss the issue. Following these discussions we hope to arrange for pupils to share their ideas with parents from both primary and secondary schools. We hope this opportunity will allow this generation of pupils to express their views following a similar exercise over ten years ago. Parents / carers will be invited to contribute to the discussion over the next few weeks by writing to, or emailing, the school, or by using the school website."

The review which followed by the Uniform Steering Group announced the following recently.

"Dear Parents/Carers and pupils of Hyndland Secondary,

Please find an update on the School Uniform Conversation

As you are aware our pupils have discussed the issue of school uniform over the course of this session. A Uniform Steering Group was established to collate views from stakeholders across the Hyndland Community. This involved meetings with parents, secondary pupils, primary pupils and other members of the local community. The group also used the school website to gather views and invited emails and letters to be addressed to the Head Teacher.

Following the collation of these views it became clear that there is a very mixed view of school uniform across the community. The Steering Group therefore recommended to the Head Teacher that the school should not introduce uniform for next session, however this may be revisited in coming sessions.

The school has passed their sincere thanks to members of the pupil steering group for their time and commitment to this important issue. Many thanks also to parents and pupils for their input to the conversation.

May we take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday when it comes.

Yours sincerely,

The steering group."
