S1 Outdoor Learning Trip - w/b 16 November

Dear S1 Parent / Carer

S1 Team Building and Outdoor Education Day

As you may be aware a highlight for our first year students in previous years has been our residential trip to Barcaple for our S1 Residential which would normally have taken place in in mid-September.  Unfortunately due to restrictions as a result of Covid we have been unable to plan any residential trips for our S1 students.   The S1 Residential Trip provides our young people with a fantastic opportunity to get to know fellow students within their House group class as well as building relationships with key staff including their Pastoral Care Teacher.

From talking to our young people since they have started at Hyndland we realise that many of our young people have very much missed the opportunity to attend the residential trip and are also very much looking forward to the range of extra-curricular clubs returning at Hyndland when it is safe to do so.   In order to compensate for some of this disappointment and to also afford our young people with a valuable opportunity to get to know their fellow peers in a more relaxed environment out with the classroom, we are planning to hold an outdoor learning day for every S1 student to attend.  Please find details of this planned excursion below;

  • Each student will attend one full day of activities at Auchengillan Outdoor Centre in Blanefield.
  • Students will leave the school at 8.30am travelling by private coach and will return to school at 3.30pm.
  • Students should take a packed lunch with them (those who receive free school meals will be provided with a packed lunch by the school).
  • Whilst the young people are at Auchengillan, they will take part in four different activities which may include; laser tag, rock climbing, archery and the team builder ‘nightline’.
  • Class 1K and 1L will attend on Monday 16th November.
  • Classes 1R1 and 1T1 will attend on Tuesday 17th November.
  • Classes 1R2 and 1T2 will attend on Wednesday 18th November.

The school will cover the full cost of the trip.  Young people do not need any specific clothing – they should simply wear older clothing suitable for the outdoors and are advised to bring a change of clothing including shoes incase they become wet during the day.

Auchengillan Outdoor Centre have carried out full risks assessments for their day activities and appropriate health and safety requirements such as hand sanitising etc will be in place during the full day.

You will be provided with a consent form which we require to be completed and returned as soon as possible to the school – these should be handed into the Depute Head Office, Pastoral Care Base or main school office.

If you have any specific questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Forrester, Depute Head Teacher or Jenny Wainwright, our School Youth Worker who will be happy to help.

We are very much hoping that all young people will be able to attend this day.  We very much feel that this will be a fantastic day of outdoor learning which will not only give our first year students a fun day but will also provide a fantastic opportunity to build their team work skills and also to build upon the relationships which have already started to form.

Further information will follow.

Kind regards,

Mrs L Forrester - Depute Head Teacher
