Update - 3rd September - Face Coverings in school

As we approach the end of the first week where pupils are required to wear face coverings in communal areas and in corridors walking between periods, we have staff stationed at the main entrances encouraging and prompting in the morning and after break and lunch, I am pleased to report that we have had a  high rate of compliance with the Scottish Government guidance and would hope next week to see an even higher rate building on routines and habits.

There is one issue that I would like to bring to your attention and this relates to a proportion of pupils who are either forgetting to bring a face mask to school or that their masks are broken. Over the first four days we have issued 150 face masks to pupils.

Unfortunately this is not sustainable to continue to issue such a volume over such a short period of time and our stock is now almost depleted. We will continue to have spare in exceptional circumstances.

I would ask that all parents/carers ensure that their children have a face covering with them before they set off for school in the morning. If your child cannot find their face mask in the morning they can bring a scarf to school and this can be used to cover their face when walking in busy communal areas or when sitting in social areas.

When the weather conditions are very poor we have zones for young people, other than this we are encouraging young people to use as much outdoor space as is possible at lunchtimes.

Thank you, as always, for your cooperation in this matter
