Higher Design & Manufacture

This course is ideal for those looking to pursue a career in any aspect of design or industrial manufacturing. The subject focuses on modern industrial design and in the Intermediate 2 and Higher level courses consist of three units of study:

·        Design Analysis

·        Developing Design Proposals

·        Manufacturing Products

To pass these units you will produce a series of folios showing a product evaluation, research leading to a specification, and idea generation resulting in a design proposal. Finally, there are three NAB (National Assessment Bank) tests covering knowledge of industrial materials, processes and orthographic drawing

Towards the end of the course you tackle the Design Assignment (DA). This consists of a design brief and specification provided by the SQA. On 8 single sided sheets of A3, you will show the generation and development of potential solutions. The DA folio accounts for 50% of the course assessment and is completed in around 10 hours. The remaining 50% of the assessment is based on the final exam assessing your knowledge
